Welcome to The ADHD Centre

Testimonials

Although I have always had problems with doing homework and getting projects done in time, I seemed to manage okay when I was younger at school because the environment was more structured. When I started my degree course at university I found it much harder to organise myself, manage my time effectively and study by myself. Before I came for an assessment at The ADHD Centre I did not even realise that ADHD could actually cause you more problems in adulthood than in childhood. With a combination treatment of medication and ADHD coaching, I can structure my time much more effectively and because I study much more efficiently, I have more time to enjoy other hobbies and activities. Thanks again Dr K and Peter for all your help.

What Is Adult ADHD?

There are three main clusters of Adult ADHD symptoms:

  • Problems with attention or concentration
  • Hyperactivity symptoms such as fidgeting and restlessness
  • Symptoms of impulsivity such as problems waiting your turn or interrupting others

There are also three different types of Adult ADHD:

  • Predominantly Inattentive Type
  • Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Type
  • Combined Type

In adults with ADHD the symptoms of hyperactivity/impulsivity are often less noticeable and people really struggle with inattentive symptoms.

Research from around the world has now shown that ADHD is fundamentally a problem with executive functioning (that part of the brain that regulates giving attention to things, organisation, prioritisation, remembering appointments, and general management of tasks and activities.)

These problems often become more noticeable in adult life when we are all typically expected to be able to juggle more responsibilities both at work and at home. So people who may have been able to cope well as a child or teenager now find that they struggle with organisation, prioritisation and managing their lives in this ever more complex world that we all live in.

We have found that the one thing that the majority of our clients with undiagnosed Adult ADHD have in common is that they feel that they are not reaching there true potential in life.

Untreated Adult ADHD can hold people back from achieving their true desired goals in many areas of their lives, both inside and outside of the work environment.
